City of Cayce Appoints Herbert Blake as New Police Chief

City of Cayce Welcomes New Police Chief Herbert Blake

Columbia, S.C. — In an exciting development for the community, the City of Cayce has officially announced Herbert Blake as the new Chief of the Cayce Police Department. This news comes approximately two months after the departure of former Chief Chris Cowan, who decided to continue his career in law at the Joseph F. Rice School of Law. With Blake set to take over, many are optimistic about the future direction of the police force.

Introducing Chief Herbert Blake

The City of Cayce shared that Chief Blake is no stranger to law enforcement, bringing with him a wealth of experience as a seasoned police officer. Currently, he serves as the Chief Deputy of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in Asheville, North Carolina. However, in a move that marks the next chapter in his distinguished career, he has formally accepted the role of Police Chief in Cayce, with his retirement from Buncombe County planned for September 30, 2024.

Support and Enthusiasm from City Officials

Jim Crosland, the Interim City Manager of Cayce, expressed enthusiasm about the city’s incoming Chief. He stated, “We are excited about our incoming Chief.” Crosland is not only an interim leader but also recognized as a veteran in the law enforcement community. He elaborated that Blake’s “experience and reputation as a leader in professional policing across North and South Carolina” made a strong impression on the selection committee, and there is a shared optimism about his ability to guide the Cayce Police Department and serve its residents effectively.

A Promising Background

Throughout his impressive career, Chief Blake has held several significant positions. He served as the Police Chief of the Hendersonville Police Department for an impressive thirteen years. Before that, he was the Police Chief of the Loris Police Department for seven years. Given his deep roots in South Carolina, Blake began his law enforcement journey at a local level as a police officer with the Town of Ridgeland. Such extensive experience in various roles positions him well to lead the Cayce Police Department.

Educational Accomplishments

Chief Blake’s qualifications extend beyond his career experience. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. With this educational background, combined with practical knowledge, he is anticipated to use his insights to foster a positive environment in policing, ensuring the Cayce community feels secure and supported.

A Bright Future Ahead

The announcement of Chief Blake stepping into his new role reflects a commitment on the part of the City of Cayce to uphold a standard of excellence in policing. As the community eagerly awaits Blake’s arrival, there is a collective hope that his leadership will enhance community relations and address the evolving needs of Cayce residents.

As residents prepare to welcome their new Police Chief, it’s clear that the City of Cayce is laying down the groundwork for a progressive and responsive policing strategy under his guidance. The excitement is palpable, and many look forward to the positive changes that lie ahead!
