Upcoming Overnight Detours Scheduled on Carolina Crossroads Project

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced two upcoming overnight detours as part of the Carolina Crossroads Project. Beginning on Sunday, July 7, there will be temporary overnight closures of existing ramps at key intersections in the metro area.

First Detour Details

The first closure involves the existing I-126 ramps at Colonial Life Boulevard. The closures will be in effect from Sunday, July 7 to Monday, July 8, beginning at 9:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 a.m.. Traffic will be rerouted using the Greystone Boulevard/Riverbanks Zoo interchange at I-126.

Scheduled Detour Operations

During the closure, SCDOT crews will be on-site conducting necessary road work. The focus of this operation is to maintain the integrity and safety of the roadways while minimizing disruption to the flow of traffic.

Second Detour Details

A second detour is scheduled for the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 9. This detour will affect the ramp from I-126 Westbound onto I-26 Eastbound. According to SCDOT, this closure is required to allow for the delivery of concrete to build the deck of the new Colonial Life Boulevard bridge over I-126.

The department notes that this closure will begin just after midnight on Tuesday, July 9, with the shutdown of the existing flyover ramp. The detour will remain in place until 6:00 a.m. upon completion of the concrete delivery.

Detour Directions and Signage

Motorists traveling from I-126 Westbound to I-26 Eastbound will be directed to take Exit 107A toward I-20 Westbound. Within the interchange loop, drivers should stay on the right and proceed to merge onto I-26 Eastbound towards Charleston.

An electronic message board will be installed along I-126 Westbound prior to the Colonial Life Boulevard exit ramp. This will serve to warn motorists of the upcoming detour and will remain in place for its duration. Additional detour signage will be placed along the route.

Call for Caution

SCDOT advises motorists to proceed with caution during these times of detour. Commuters should anticipate possible delays and plan accordingly. Live traffic updates will be available on the SCDOT 511 service. For any further concerns or queries, the public is advised to contact the Project Hotline at 800-601-8715.

Despite the short-term inconvenience these closures might cause, they are crucial for the progression of the Carolina Crossroads Project. The entire SCDOT team appreciates the patience and understanding of motorists during this time.
