Bluffton Rotary Announces Grant and Scholarship Recipients for 2024

In a recent development, the Rotary Club of Bluffton has awarded its second half of 2024 grants and fall scholarships to several deserving organizations and students in the area.

Grant Recipients

The grant recipients this year include Meals on Wheels, Bluffton Self Help, Special Olympics and Recreation SOAR for bus repair and a driver, and South Carolina Nurse Retention Initiative (SCNRI), who will use the grant funding for a nurse with an associate’s degree. The Rotary Club reviews many applications every year and donates to select organizations twice a year. All beneficiaries of the grants are involved in charity work that benefits the community.

Scholarship Recipients

The Fall 2024 scholarships were awarded to Riley Burkhart from Bluffton High School, Caleb Winget from Hilton Head Christian Academy, both of whom will be attending Clemson University, and Kristen Claffy from May River High School, who will be pursuing her studies at the University of South Carolina.

The Rotary Club of Bluffton, which was chartered in 1988, is among over 46,000 Clubs globally that work on sustainable projects to improve the environment and communities following the organization’s motto, Service Above Self.

Hampton Regional Medical Center Welcomes New Orthopedic Surgeon

Coastal Plains Physician Associates, in affiliation with the Hampton Regional Medical Center and MUSC Health, recently welcomed Dr. Mark Wikenheiser as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Wikenheiser brings over 30 years of surgical experience from The Mayo Clinic Health System and is keen to provide personalized care for quicker recoveries in this community. He specializes in fractures treatment, sports medicine, and joint replacements.

Allendale County Hospital Opens Specialized Wound Care Center

Allendale County Hospital has announced the inauguration of the Allendale County Hospital Advanced Wound Care. This state-of-the-art outpatient wound care treatment center is committed to the care of patients with wounds. The advanced wound care center features a multidisciplinary team trained in advanced wound care, employing traditional and progressive therapies that speed up the healing process.

Dr. Sarah Miller Promoted at USC Salkehatchie

The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie has announced the promotion of Dr. Sarah Miller to the position of associate dean for academic and student affairs. With a strong commitment to community service and education, Dr. Miller looks forward to serving USC Salkehatchie and its communities.

Dr. Miller, a history professor since 2006, has worked tirelessly to offer valuable opportunities for students and communities over the years. She has guided students through in-depth studies of local history and has received multiple teaching and service awards for her efforts.
