Bluffton Rotary announces grant and scholarship recipients
BLUFFTON, SC – The Rotary Club of Bluffton named the recipients of its grants for the latter half of 2024. The chosen organizations all serve the local community through their charitable activities. The grant awardees included Meals on Wheels, Bluffton Self Help, SOAR – Special Olympics and Recreation, and SCNRI – South Carolina Nurse Retention Initiative.
The same group also announced the Fall 2024 scholarship recipients. Riley Burkhart of Bluffton High School, Caleb Winget of Hilton Head Christian Academy, and Kristen Claffy from May River High School were selected. All three will be furthering their studies in state universities.
The Rotary Club of Bluffton, founded in 1988, emphasizes the mission of “Service Above Self.” It is part of a global network of over 46,000 clubs striving for sustainable projects that enhance the community and the environment.
Hampton Regional Medical Center welcomes Dr. Mark Wikenheiser
VARNVILLE, SC – The Hampton Regional Medical Center, in association with MUSC Health, welcomed Dr. Mark Wikenheiser to its Coastal Plains Physician Associates. Dr. Wikenheiser is an orthopedic surgeon with over 30 years of experience, coming from his long-standing career at The Mayo Clinic Health System, the top-rated hospital in the nation.
Dr. Wikenheiser is excited about his move to South Carolina and bringing his extensive orthopedic surgical experience to Hampton Regional. His specialization includes fractures, sports medicine, and joint replacements.
Allendale County Hospital opens Advanced Wound Care
FAIRFAX, SC – The Allendale County Hospital recently unveiled the Allendale County Hospital Advanced Wound Care, an outpatient treatment center committed to caring for patients with wounds. The center utilizes an aggressive and comprehensive approach, ensuring patients receive the most effective treatment plans based on their specific symptoms and possible underlying conditions.
The Allendale County Hospital Advanced Wound Care will operate every Wednesday afternoon, starting Aug. 28, 2024.
Dr. Sarah Miller becomes associate dean for USC Salkehatchie
USC Salkehatchie announced that Dr. Sarah Miller has been nominated as the new associate dean for academic and student affairs. Joining the university faculty in 2006, Dr. Miller has been an instrumental part of the Salkehatchie campus and its community, contributing significantly to its students’ experiences as well as its historical and preservation societies.
Dr. Miller expressed her excitement and honor in assuming the role of associate dean, signaling her continued commitment to the Salkehatchie campus and its community. Her sustained record of excellence in education and service has garnered nationwide recognition, already netting her numerous awards and accolades. She was named USC Salkehatchie’s Professor of the Year six times.
Dr. Miller plans to combine her passion for teaching, student engagement and community activism in her new role. Her various projects have focused on enhancing local historical knowledge and understanding, often involving student participation and local community engagement.
