Bluffton Seeks Residents’ Help for Flood Information After Tropical Storm Debby

Bluffton Appeals to Residents for Flooding Information Following Tropical Storm Debby

The Town of Bluffton is requesting help from its residents to complete a flooding survey. This survey aims to gather experiences and damages caused by the recent Tropical Storm Debby. This data is of great value to the town’s future preparations and policies on severe weather events.

Town officials emphasize the importance of citizen input. The experiences and damage assessments from this survey will be instrumental in understanding how to shape the town’s preventative flood measures, modify existing policies, and plan for potential improvements to the stormwater infrastructure.

In addition to assisting in local planning, this information will contribute to FEMA reporting and community outreach. Its application is multifold and crucial to a stronger future for the small town in South Carolina.

How to Submit Your Survey

Residents are encouraged to utilize the online survey available via the link: https://arcg.is/10a5Sn. For those who prefer the traditional route, hard copies of the survey are also available. These can either be mailed or dropped off at the Bluffton Town Hall, 20 Bridge Street, Bluffton, South Carolina, 29910. The deadline for survey submissions, both online and hard copy versions, is October 31.

Bringing citizens closer to the town’s governance and decision-making, Bluffton town is also offering two public meetings. These give residents a chance to communicate with town staff and researchers, discussing their experiences with flooding incidents.

The first public meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, August 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Pritchardville Elementary School, located at 9447 Evans Way. The second opportunity to communicate with town staff and researchers will be at the Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival Town booth on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Moving Forward as a Community

The Town of Bluffton believes that the effective prevention of future flooding and accurate FEMA reporting lies within its community. By involving residents actively in flood surveys and public discussions, the town strives to build resilience within the community and enhance preparedness for the future.
