Beaufort’s Fat Patties Closing Soon, New Restaurant Concept to Replace it

After 12 years of operation, Fat Patties, a popular burger joint in Beaufort, is set to close on 24th August, 2024. The restaurant’s owner, Nick Borreggine, intends to launch a different restaurant concept at the same location just a few weeks after Fat Patties closes.

Fat Patties has been a beloved establishment in the Beaufort community, widely recognised for their delicious burgers and craft beers. The decision to close has been characterised as “bittersweet” by the restaurant’s general manager and Borreggine’s sister, Deanna Gray. However, the location won’t be vacant for long.

New Concept: Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar

Just a month or two after Fat Patties’ doors are closed, a new establishment by the name of Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar will be opening at the same location. This new venture plans to offer a fresh culinary alternative to the region. Borreggine intends to serve in-house made pasta and dishes inspired by coastal Italian cuisines at Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar.

From Fat Patties to Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar: The Transition

The transformation from Fat Patties to Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar will mostly involve cosmetic changes, enabling a quick turnaround. Borreggine, a seasoned restaurant industry veteran, believes that this new concept will fill a gap in the area’s culinary offerings while also diversifying his business portfolio.

Over the years, Borreggine has launched various restaurant businesses in the Lowcountry region, from a waterfront eatery like Panini’s on the Waterfront in Beaufort to the Shellring Ale Works in Port Royal that opened in 2022. His ventures have catered to different tastes and demographics. With Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar, he hopes to offer yet another unique dining experience to the region.

Community Response And Future Expectations

The announcement of Fat Patties’ closure was met with a huge outpouring of support from the local community. Despite it being a tough decision, Borreggine is optimistic about the new restaurant’s potential. He anticipates that the change will help boost the business, offer a fresh dining choice to the locals, and continue to sustain the spirit of Fat Patties.

Transition Challenges and Economic Factors

The shift from Fat Patties to Scratch Italian Kitchen and Bar comes amidst various economic challenges. Rising costs of local, fresh ingredients, the increased wages, and inflation have all contributed to the financial strain. Yet, possessing a resilient approach, the team behind Fat Patties is confident about adapting to the new concept and providing yet another culinary delight to the Beaufort patrons.
