Breast Cancer in South Carolina
According to recent reports, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in South Carolina and serves as the second most common cause for cancer-related death. Timely mammograms can detect breast cancer before signs or symptoms become evident. Notably, breast cancer is usually treatable if detected early, underscoring the importance of regular screenings such as those being offered by the health departments.
Impact of Event
By hosting this event, the South Carolina Department of Public Health and the Beaufort County Health Department aim to raise awareness about the importance of early detection in fighting breast cancer, while providing critical health services to those who might otherwise not afford them. While this event is an important step, it illustrates the ongoing need for accessible healthcare and timely cancer screenings in South Carolina and beyond.
