SAVANNAH, Ga. – The back-to-school season is nearly upon us, and the Savannah Police Department (SPD) is providing assistance to the families of schoolchildren in preparation. The department held its second annual “back to school bash,” an event filled with enjoyable activities and beneficial offerings like food, music, and games. The main highlight, however, was the distribution of free school supplies to lend a hand to parents gearing up for their children’s academic year.
Parents and children had the opportunity to interact directly with the officers from the Savannah Police Department during the event. Commenting on this, SPD Cpl., Rebekah Helmick, said, “Being able to meet the community, help the community, those that may need a little extra help getting those school supplies our students need to start the school off right.”
Among the many features of the “back to school bash,” families had the unique chance to explore the department’s mounted patrol and learn more about the various units that make up the department. It was a day filled with fun and knowledge, offering a glimpse into the workings of law enforcement while also helping families prepare for the academic year ahead.
