In Augusta, Georgia, a body was discovered in the Savannah River, which had been unidentified for the past week, is now confirmed to be that of 38-year-old Jermaine Pate from Georgiana, Alabama.
Richmond County Coroner’s Office made the confirmation yesterday, a week after the body was found in the river on the morning of July 19. Pate’s remains were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) lab for autopsy as per the Coroner’s direction.
According to official reports, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen was called to the 600 block of Riverfront Drive at 8:18 a.m. when a body was found in the river. A local fisherman had made the grim discovery and immediately alerted 911. Emergency services promptly cleared the scene by 8:50 a.m.
The Coroner’s Office currently awaits the results of the autopsy to establish the cause and circumstances of the death. The investigation continues as authorities aim to piece together the events leading up to Pate’s untimely death.
