Annual Wreaths Across America Program to Honor Veterans in Columbia, S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A Heartfelt Tribute to Our Heroes

As December rolls in and the holiday season approaches, there’s an extra special reason to gather and show our appreciation. It’s that time of year again when we honor our brave men and women in uniform through the annual “Wreaths Across America” program. Here in Columbia, South Carolina, we’re gearing up for a wonderful occasion that shines a spotlight on those who have served our great nation.

Governor’s Proclamation

Just recently, Governor Henry McMaster proclaimed December as “Wreaths Across America” Month, emphasizing the importance of recognizing veterans and the sacrifices they have made. This beautiful tribute will take place on December 14th, when volunteers nationwide will come together to lay wreaths at the final resting places of our heroes. A heartwarming figure to note: over 2 million volunteers across the entire country are anticipated to participate in this touching event.

Local Efforts at Fort Jackson National Cemetery

Here in Columbia, we’re particularly excited about the contributions that our local community will make at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. At noon on December 14th, a whopping 13,000 wreaths will be placed at the cemetery, ensuring that our local veterans are honored, remembered, and celebrated. It’s a truly powerful moment that unites all of us who recognize the sacrifice made by these individuals.

How Can You Help?

Participating in this event and supporting our veterans doesn’t have to stop at attending the ceremony. If you’re feeling the holiday spirit and want to give back, it’s easy to get involved! Each wreath that will be laid at Fort Jackson costs just $17. This sponsorship goes directly to supporting the logistics and purchase of the wreaths, ensuring that every grave marker adorned with a wreath is a shining symbol of respect and gratitude. If you would like to make a donation, you can find the sponsorship information available online.

A Moment to Reflect

For many of us, the holidays are a time of joy and gathering, but they can also be tinged with sorrow as we remember loved ones we have lost. The act of placing these wreaths serves as a poignant reminder of those who have given everything, and it offers a chance for all of us to pause and reflect on their legacy. With every wreath laid, we say a silent thank you, ensuring that no hero is forgotten.

Join Us!

So as we prepare to embark on this illuminating journey of remembrance, we encourage everyone in the Columbia area to participate. Whether you choose to volunteer your time on December 14th or contribute through sponsorship, every effort counts. Together, let’s show our veterans that they are loved, appreciated, and always remembered.

Get Ready for the Celebration

Mark your calendars for December 14th and join hands with your fellow community members as we celebrate our heroes through the “Wreaths Across America” initiative. Together, we can spread warmth, love, and gratitude, creating an unforgettable experience for all involved. Let’s make this December a month filled with compassion and honor as we come together to support our veterans in the most meaningful way.
