Tragic Accidents on Interstate 77 Claim Two Lives in Columbia, South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tragic Night on Interstate 77

It’s never easy to hear about accidents, and last Thursday night was particularly heartbreaking for Columbia, South Carolina. On the busy Interstate 77, not one, but two separate accidents claimed the lives of two individuals, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The First Collision

The first incident occurred around 9:19 p.m. near the 15 mile marker, right by the Percival Road exit. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a vehicle was heading southbound when it veered off the road. Unfortunately, the car overturned, resulting in a tragic outcome. The front seat passenger, who has been identified as 20-year-old Shayna Stukes from Gaston, lost her life in this devastating crash. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and officials are piecing together the details to understand what led to such a heartbreaking event.

The Second Collision

Just a couple of hours later, at 11:12 p.m., another collision occurred on I-77 North, close to the 12 mile marker, near the Forest Drive exit. This time, the accident involved a sedan and a motorcycle. According to information gathered from troopers, both vehicles were traveling north on I-77 when the motorcycle struck the sedan at its right rear corner. The impact caused the motorcycle to overturn and travel off the road.

Sadly, the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 37-year-old Robert Licata from Lugoff, also lost his life in this tragic incident. Just like the first collision, this case is also under investigation, with the Highway Patrol working hard to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A Community in Grief

These two separate incidents have left a profound impact on the community, underscoring how quickly life can change. Friends, family, and acquaintances are coming to terms with the loss, and it’s essential to remember that tragedy often touches the lives of many. Shayna and Robert were beloved in their circles and their untimely deaths are deeply felt.

Local authorities encourage everyone to stay alert while driving, particularly on busy highways like I-77. Reckless driving or sudden distractions can lead to irreversible consequences, and it’s a reminder that we all need to prioritize safety over haste.

Support and Resources

For those who may be struggling with the news of these accidents, it’s crucial to reach out for support. Whether it’s friends, family, or professional services, sharing feelings and experiences can help process grief and loss. The community of Columbia stands strong, united in love and support for the victims and their families.

As investigations continue, we remind everyone to drive safely and always be aware of your surroundings. Life can be unpredictable, and simple acts of caution can sometimes prevent tragedies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by these awful events.

Conclusion

As Columbia comes to terms with these tragic losses, let us remember to cherish every moment with our loved ones and never take a safe drive for granted. It’s a tough reminder, but one that many will keep close to their hearts as they navigate through the days ahead.
