Sumter, South Carolina: Two Arrested After Shootout at Burger King

Two men were arrested in Sumter, South Carolina, following a violent shootout in the parking lot of a Burger King. This incident occurred on Friday morning at approximately 9:45 a.m. during what police described as a drug deal gone bad.

The Incident

According to the Sumter Police Department, the altercation began when one man attempted to rob the other. The confrontation escalated quickly, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. In the chaos, at least one vehicle parked in the lot was struck by bullets, although no injuries, apart from one of the suspects, were reported.

The Injured Suspect

One of the individuals involved, 24-year-old Authur Jamaal Reimbeau from Spartanburg, was shot during the exchange. He fled a short distance from the Burger King before collapsing, where local authorities found him injured and in need of medical attention. Reimbeau was taken to an area hospital and treated for his injuries. He was released to police custody on Tuesday, following his recovery.

Charges Against Reimbeau

Reimbeau faces a series of serious charges, including:

  • Discharging a firearm into a vehicle
  • Attempted murder
  • Illegal possession of marijuana (second offense)
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Armed robbery

The Second Shooter

The second suspect, 23-year-old Eyan Ernest Nathaniel, from Sumter, managed to escape the scene in a vehicle. However, police apprehended him shortly after the incident. Nathaniel faces several charges, including:

  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
  • Trafficking of marijuana
  • Felon in possession of a firearm

Search Leads to Major Drug Seizure

In a further development, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Reed Street, connected to Nathaniel. During the operation, officers uncovered nearly $17,000 in cash and approximately 18 pounds of marijuana, which authorities estimated to be worth about $36,000.

Current Status of the Suspects

Both Reimbeau and Nathaniel are currently being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center without bond. The police continue to investigate the specifics surrounding the shooting incident.
