Community Recovery Efforts

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Join Hands for Hurricane Helene Recovery

Hey there, South Carolina friends! It’s been a tough time for our community as we recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene. But there’s a beacon of hope shining brightly here in Columbia. The Central Carolina Community Foundation is stepping up to help our neighbors with the launch of the One SC Fund, and they’re inviting everyone to join in by making a financial donation at www.OneSCFund.org.

A Community United in Crisis

The One SC Fund is a statewide disaster response initiative that’s loved by many for uniting philanthropic donors, corporate partners, and generous funders from both nearby and afar when we need it the most. It’s like a giant hug for anyone facing tough times! Whenever there’s a state-declared emergency, our philanthropic community rallies together to raise vital funds, directly supporting the nonprofits that are responding to the needs created by natural disasters.

The funds that come in are thoughtfully directed to communities right here in South Carolina that need it the most, all in coordination with the South Carolina Office of Resilience. It’s an amazing partnership that makes sure help goes right where it’s needed!

Giving Back: How to Help

If you feel moved to lend a hand, donating to the One SC Fund is super easy. The fund is designed for this exact purpose—it was originally set up by the Central Carolina Community Foundation back in 2015 with the support of former Governor Nikki Haley after the devastating The Thousand-Year Flood. Since then, it has been there for us through thick and thin, assisting with funding after Hurricane Matthew, Hurricane Florence, and even during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. And now, it’s active again and ready to help with recovery from Hurricane Helene.

Impact You Can Feel

To give you an idea of just how much good has come from this initiative, let’s talk numbers! Since its inception, the One SC Fund has distributed an impressive $10,426,777 to local nonprofits that are dedicated to disaster recovery projects. Can you believe it? This incredible support has helped a whopping 868,847 individuals access vital assistance for their basic needs, including food, rent, utility help, healthcare, and shelter!

Even more heartwarming, around 2,300 families have been able to return home after being displaced by disasters. That’s a whole lot of families getting back to normal, thanks to the hard work of local nonprofits and the generous contributions from folks like you!

Words from the Community

“It is incredible to see how, in times of crisis, our community responds with overwhelming generosity, from first responders to neighbors helping neighbors,” says Georgia Mjartan, the president and CEO of the Central Carolina Community Foundation. She adds, “By giving to the One SC Fund, we can all support the local nonprofits doing the front-line work of recovery from Hurricane Helene.”

Nonprofits, Here’s Your Chance!

For the nonprofits out there doing phenomenal work, there’s a golden opportunity! As funds are donated, these organizations providing relief, recovery, and rebuilding assistance can apply for grants at www.YourFoundation.org/one-sc-fund. Please note, however, that individual applications for grants are not accepted; it’s all about empowering the nonprofits to help our community.

If you or someone you know is looking for help after Hurricane Helene, don’t hesitate to reach out! There are resources available to guide you through the recovery process. Let’s collaborate and pull together to lift each other up during these challenging times.

As we come together to support one another, let’s remember that every little bit counts. Your donations can make a significant difference in someone’s life. So, let’s keep the spirit of community alive—donate to the One SC Fund and share the love!
