DSS Hosts Walk for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

COLUMBIA, S.C.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is observing the annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with a public walk scheduled for Friday, June 15. Aimed at raising consciousness regarding the persisting issue of elder abuse globally, the walk will be executed in collaboration with various organizations.

Public Participation

DSS encourages public participation in this significant effort. Participants are requested to wear purple clothing or flaunt a purple ribbon, a color symbolizing the campaign against elder abuse worldwide.

Event Details

Interested participants will assemble on the employee entrance side of the DSS Downtown Columbia building, located at 1535 Confederate Avenue, at 9 a.m. The planned route for the walk extends from Bull Street towards Elmwood Avenue.

Fight Against Elder Abuse

This event aims to shed light on the persisting problem of elder abuse. DSS, aside from this walk, offers Adult Advocacy and Adult Protective Services and provides information on how to report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
