Columbia Residents Invited to Participate in National Volunteer Week

Columbia, SC – April is highlighted by National Volunteer Month, promoting advocacy and service through voluntary efforts. The United Way of the Midlands is utilizing this month to push forward the idea that one individual can make a difference, and when a community works together, lasting and substantial change can be achieved.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration of ordinary people’s extraordinary contributions through service, starts next week. From April 21st to April 27th, several local non-profits and community organizations will be hosting numerous volunteer opportunities to help give back to the local citizens.

Participating organizations range from The Salvation Army, Senior Resources, Meals on Wheels, Pals, amongst others. The goal is to encourage residents to take part in something they truly care about and foster long-term volunteers through this drive.

Last Year’s Success and This Year’s Expectations

United Way’s Community Engagement Manager, Noah Weathersby, expressed his excitement for the upcoming week. He revealed that, “Last year alone, we had over 350 people volunteering in the Midlands, which is amazing, and this year we’re hoping to beat that.” The week-long drive encourages participation from citizens who may not have known about certain volunteering opportunities previously.

Registration and Volunteer Opportunities

Those interested in signing up to volunteer can visit the United Way’s official website to view the full list of available opportunities. The website provides potential volunteers an easy way to identify the causes they’re most passionate about and find suitable opportunities to get involved. This initiative is in line with United Way’s mission to mobilize communities to create lasting changes in community conditions.
