Exciting Festivities Coming to Forest Acres!
It’s that magical time of year again in Forest Acres! The countdown to the holiday season is officially on, and there’s no better way to kick off the festivities than with the highly anticipated Sweet Seasons Christmas tree lighting event. This year marks the 20th annual celebration and it promises to be more spectacular than ever!
Get Ready for a Spectacular Evening
On Tuesday, December 3rd, from 5 – 8 p.m., the Forest Park Shopping Center, located at 4711 Forest Drive, will be transformed into a winter wonderland. With a high of 70 degrees and partly cloudy skies predicted — let’s hope the weather holds up for a delightful evening! Just remember, scattered thunderstorms may sprinkle the morning, so maybe grab that umbrella just in case! They’ve predicted a 60% chance of rain, but odds are, it’ll clear up in time for the festivities. The winds will be mild, coming from the west-southwest at 10 to 20 mph, so it should be a breezy and enjoyable evening.
A Feast for the Senses
Sweet Seasons is proudly named the largest event in the Forest Acres community each year, and this time, it’s set to be a culinary delight. There will be 16 food and beverage vendors serving up delicious dinners, drinks, and desserts for purchase. So whether you’re in the mood for savory treats or sweet delights, there’s something to satisfy every palate!
Fun for the Whole Family
But wait, there’s more! The event is free and packed with family-friendly activities. Kids will find endless joy with face painting, balloon animals, and hot chocolate to warm their spirits. And how can we forget the chance to snap a picture with the jolly Santa Claus and the mischievous Grinch? It’s the perfect opportunity to create some Instagram-worthy moments.
Adding even more sparkle to the evening will be live entertainment including performances by the Satchelford Sensations — an all-boys choir, the AC FLORA marching band, and the talented dancers from the Palmetto Performing Arts Company. There’s also a karate demonstration by Legacy Martial Arts that you won’t want to miss! And if you fancy a good laugh, be ready to be amazed by a magician performing tricks that are bound to confound you!
To top it off, get ready to dance! An interactive dance party is on the agenda, featuring snow, elves, and beats from Columbia’s own DJ MC Loud. Come ready to shake your groove thing!
Help Support Local Businesses
While you’re indulging in holiday cheer, why not do a little shopping too? Over 20 local businesses and non-profits will be present, giving you the perfect opportunity to cross some items off your holiday gift list while supporting your community.
A Word from City Officials
As the evening unfolds, keep an ear out for the official lighting ceremony at around 6:15 p.m. led by Mayor Andrews and other city council members. It’s a special moment that you won’t want to miss as the tree lights up the night sky.
If you’re planning to attend, parking is free and conveniently available on-site at the Cardinal Crossing Parking Deck behind Lowes Foods, as well as at city hall and Gills Creek Memorial Park.
Important Traffic Advisory
Heads up! The Forest Acres Police Department is advising everyone to plan ahead for traffic on December 3rd. If you’re driving into Columbia on Forest Drive, it’s best to take an alternate route. Two lanes will be reserved for event traffic, which could slow down your usual commute. Police officers will be on-site to help direct traffic and keep the flow moving smoothly.

Mark your calendars, gather your family and friends, and come join the festivities at Sweet Seasons! With festive food, vibrant performances, and a whole lot of holiday spirit, it’s the perfect way to welcome the magic of the season in Forest Acres. Don’t miss it!
