Columbia Prepares for a Night of Soulful Tribute to Frankie Beverly with TMF and The Whispers

Columbia Gears Up for a Soulful Tribute!

Hey there, Columbia! Ready your dancing shoes and get set for an unforgettable night! On November 22, 2024, the Township Auditorium will be bubbling with energy as TMF (The Music First) hits the stage alongside the legendary vocal group, The Whispers, to pay tribute to the one and only Frankie Beverly of Maze fame.

What’s the Buzz?

Now, before we dive into the details, let’s clear the air. TMF isn’t just any tribute band; they are the heart and soul of Maze! Yes, it’s true! Following the passing of the beloved Frankie Beverly at the age of 77 earlier this year, many wondered what would become of Maze’s smooth sounds that have warmed our hearts through the decades. Thankfully, with the incredible talents of TMF, we’re in for a magical experience.

Keeping the Legacy Alive

Even without the iconic Beverly, TMF is bringing the heat and reliving Maze’s enchanting vibes. This new iteration is packed with seasoned musicians who have devoted years, some even decades, to the Maze legacy. Take percussionist Roam Lowry — he’s been with the band for an astonishing 55 years! Keyboardist Vance Taylor joined the ranks back in 2003, while bass player Bear Williams has nearly the same tenure. Talk about a musical family!

“The one thing I love doing most is performing,” Roame shared enthusiastically. “It feels incredible to be back on the road with my musical family. After all these years, it truly is a new chapter with TMF, and the music? It’s off the charts!”

Stepping Up to the Plate

So, who’s filling the legendary shoes of Frankie Beverly on vocals? It’s Chris Walker — a name you might have heard in the industry. He’s collaborated with many big names, from the avant-garde free-jazz artist Ornette Coleman to the soulful Regina Belle. “Having met Frankie back when I was just 19, it’s an incredible honor to stand in his place,” Walker said. “It’s not easy, but I’m ready for the challenge!”

Expectations High for November 22!

Circle that date on your calendars! TMF will not only be serving up beloved classics like “Before I Let Go”, “Joy & Pain”, and “We Are One” but they’re also bringing some fresh tracks! Their debut album, titled “The Music First, Vol. 1”, has already gotten fans buzzing with hits like “Let Me Love You” and the emotional “Making Love To The Music”.

“It was a magical time,” Roame reminisced about their recording process. “The camaraderie we had was surreal. We quickly captured the tunes, often in just one or two takes! That’s how deep our connection runs.”

Performing in the Presence of Memories

Naturally, one might wonder how it feels performing these timeless songs without Beverly. Roame reflected poignantly, “He was my best friend since 1969. His legacy will never fade, and we will continue to share his music and love as he would have wanted.”

Get Your Tickets!

Don’t miss out! TMF will present the essence of Maze at Township Auditorium at 8 p.m. on November 22, and tickets are priced between $69 and $150. This is a chance to witness live music history while celebrating the unforgettable sounds of an R&B legend. For more info, check out thetownship.org.
