In the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, excitement is taking center stage as registration for the inaugural 803 Day is now open. Anyone wishing to join in the festivities can now register for any of the activities that will take place on Saturday, August 3.
803 Day is not just a nod to Columbia’s area code, it’s a celebration of unity, pride and the vibrant spirit of the area. This one-day celebration will be packed with a variety of engaging activities designed for residents and visitors alike. According to Khali Gallman, the event organizer, 803 Day represents an opportunity to “embrace the heart of our great state”.
The day will start bright and early with a 803 Day 5K Run/Walk at 8:00 AM. This fun run/walk is fit for participants of all ages and fitness levels. It will take place through the picturesque heart of Forest Acres. Participation in this event will also be a way to show support for a local cause, with a portion of the proceeds going to Cola Rose Shower, a nonprofit aimed at celebrating women and raising awareness on feminine care issues in the Greater Columbia area.
At 11:00 AM, participants can gather in front of the South Carolina State House for a Group Photo. This free photo op is a fantastic opportunity to encapsulate the memories of the 803 Day with family and friends against the backdrop of the iconic State House.
Then, the historic Robert Mills House & Gardens will play host to a Free 803 Day Festival from 12NOON to 5:00 PM. The festival programme includes a variety of local live music, interactive art installations, food trucks and vendors, exhibitors, and family-friendly fun activities. VIP access is also available at a cost of $75 per person, offering an indoor reception with light refreshments, indoor restrooms, as well as a private bar with beverage tickets.
Those with a sense of adventure will enjoy the Citywide Scavenger Hunt. This exciting journey across the Midlands will allow participants to solve clues, uncover hidden gems, and compete for interesting prizes. In order to participate in the scavenger hunt, downloading the free Soda City Certified app and entering pin codes to earn points is a must.
Capping off the day’s activities, eventgoers can take part in giving back to the community by donating back-to-school supplies to the JoO Foundation. This local nonprofit is committed to providing resources for children and families in the Midlands.
Registration for all the 803 Day activities is now open on the official website. Those interested in supporting the event can also sign up to volunteer.
