Lexington County Announces Solid Waste Management Schedule for Independence Day 2024

Lexington, SC ‒ 01/07/2024

The Lexington County’s Solid Waste Division aired their hypersensitive Independence Day schedule on Monday. In lieu of the celebrations on July 4, the curbside solid waste collection for some dwellings will undergo adjustments to their usual timings.

Modified Solid Waste Collection

Annually, the residential curbside solid waste and recycling collection undergo modification to accommodate holidays. On this account, the usual procedure will be interrupted in the unincorporated areas of Lexington County on July 4, with no collection taking place. The Thursday collection will take place on the subsequent day, July 5, while Friday’s waste will be collected on Saturday, July 6 before the normal schedule resumes on Monday, July 8.

Lexington County encourages residents to download the free LEXINGTON COUNTY SC SOLIDWASTE App from their phone’s app store. This will ensure they receive all updated schedule information. Local dwellers are also advised to follow the Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LCSCSWM, for the latest updates. For any questions or inquiries, they can reach out to their curbside hauler at Capital Waste Services, GFL-Waste Industries, or Tyler Sanitation of Columbia.

Collection and Recycling Center Schedule

All eleven Lexington County Collection and Recycling Centers will remain closed on July 4 and July 2 to commemorate the national festival. Normal operations, involving waste recycling and collection, will, however, resume on Wednesday, July 3 and Friday, July 5 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

County Landfill Operations

The County’s Solid Waste Management Landfill, located at 429 Landfill Lane, off Highway 302 in the Edmund community, will remain closed on Independence Day, reopening the following day at 7:00 a.m. Normal operations will continue until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.

Administrative Office Schedule

The Administrative Offices of the Lexington County Department of Solid Waste Management will observe a day-off on July 4 and will reopen on Friday, July 5.

In view of the Independence Day Celebrations, Lexington county urges its residents to dispose of their used fireworks responsibly. The disposal of these items should preferably be done after confirming they are completely used and have cooled down entirely. Once this is ascertained, they can be disposed of in a tightly sealed waste bag in the curbside garbage roll-cart.

Unused fireworks should be brought to the Lexington County Sherriff’s Department for proper disposal. Remember, the county’s objective is safety first!
