15-year-old Girl Charged in West Columbia Shooting Incident
COLUMBIA, S.C. – A 15-year-old girl from Lexington County has been charged after law enforcement officials said she shot at two other teenagers on Friday night. As per a news release from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, the teenager’s name will not be made public since she is still a minor.
The girl has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and unlawful possession of a handgun. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department used surveillance footage to assist in their investigation.
Details of the Incident
According to authorities, the surveillance video captured the shooting incident. The video revealed that there had been a fight involving two teenagers earlier on that Friday night. Lexington County Sheriff, Jay Koon, in a release, informed that multiple individuals, including the suspect and the victim, got involved subsequently.
“Footage showed multiple people, including the suspect and the victim, got involved once the fight began,” Sheriff Koon stated. He further added that the girl shooter fired her gun twice at the other teenagers involved.
Arrest and Consequences
Following the incident, the 15-year-old suspect was apprehended and sent to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. As a minor, her identity remains protected by law. Law enforcement maintains that the situation is under control and an investigation into the shooting incident continues.
